My topics are always inspired by thoughts that I have/things that I see while driving. This morning is no different: I saw a beautiful green El Camino making an illegal U-turn in the street. Over the past few months my craving for an El Camino has gotten really strong.
When I was young, the car I remember thinking was the best was my dad's various VW Bugs. He had a white one and a blue one, as far as I remember. I loved it when he drove us to school in those...it was really loud and drew a lot of attention. The other kids probably thought it was weird and we were some hillbillies, but I thought it was the coolest entrance.
I also have early memories of sleeping in the back of my dad's Bronco II. When he was called into work and my mom was working (she did the PM shift at the hospital), my sister and I would set up a bed in the back and sleep there in the middle of a Paterson parking lot. Safe! I guess it was ok to do this in the 80s.
My very first car was an '87 Nissan Maxima, in "two tone champagne". It was actually just light and dark grey. That car wasn't fancy to look at, but it sure had a lot of personality. It talked!! The voice was like a female robot and would tell you when the door was ajar or lights were on. My sister used it first, and then when she went to college, "The Bitch" was all mine.
I didn't have a car again until after college graduation. When I moved home, my dad surprised me with a honda civic - in some gold color. He said it was either that or some 1960s mustang. Looks wise, I think it was a poor choice, but I understand that the mustang wouldn't have been reliable and it would have been pricey to keep up. That civic saw a lot of action - I drove down to central NJ a lot in those days and I quickly accumulated miles. It had to be sold once I moved out West. That was a good little car.
My current ride is a 2007 VW Rabbit in White. It's cute and zippy. The lease is up in August and I have no idea what to do next. In my dreamworld I would give it up and be given a beautiful muscle car!! Maybe something with a Ribbon painted down the side like my old neighbor growing up. Two doors down from us lived a group that we called "The TEENAGERS". They were probably more like in their mid-20s and were real hairmetal type. One of them owned a white camaro with a pink ribbon painted down the sides. We called him "Ribbon" of course. His hair was very puffy and he wore very tight jeans on his not so tight bod.
This was a boring post. At least the pictures are good!! How do I imbed the pictures in the body??
